A 50-year-old destitute died of Covid in the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa even as over 60 new positive cases were reported in Bardez on Wednesday.
The destitute man who was lying on one of the footpaths of a building was shifted to the district hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
The doctors on duty pronounced him brought dead.
A post-mortem report of the man revealed that he was infected with the novel coronavirus.
In the meanwhile, Mapusa urban health centre reported 13 new positive cases on Wednesday. Four persons tested positive in Khorim, three in Carrasvaddo, two each in Ansabhat and Altinho and one each in Duler and Peddem.
Health Officer at the Candolim primary health centre, Dr Roshan Nazareth informed that 23 new positive cases came to light in the jurisdiction of Candolim PHC.
He said eight persons tested positive in the beach village of Candolim and three tested positive in Calangute. Similarly, seven were infected with the virus in Reis Magos, two each in Saligao and Arpora and one in Nerul.
A total of 11 persons were found infected with the virus in Colvale primary health centre. According to Health Officer, Dr Damodar Narvenkar seven persons tested positive in Colvale, two in Revora and one each in Tivim and Pirna.
Siolim primary health centre reported 10 positive cases “ Anjuna (5), Canca (2), Parra (1), Siolim (1) and Assagao (1).
The least number of positive cases were detected in Aldona primary health centre with six persons having tested Covid positive. Three persons tested positive in Nachinola, two in Bastora and one in Moira.
The Covid cases continued to rise at a fast pace in Porvorim primary health centre with the number of active positive cases touching 296 on Wednesday.
