In an initiative to keep a centralized track of power failures with the objective of providing 24x7 power supply, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral on Wednesday said the electricity department will go in for centralized monitoring mechanism which will generate automatic messages on the failures and the restoration.
The Power Minister said the project will accurately measure the reliability of the power distribution network and facilitate utility to take suitable administrative action for enhancement of power reliability.
Cabral along with senior power officials watched a presentation made by Ashida at the Aquem Power House on Wednesday evening, wherein the company demonstrated how the system will keep track of the tripping of the feeders and the time taken to repair the same.
“The system will enable monitoring the power failures and restoration of power supply of entire Goa from the Kadamba Power Station,” he added.
He said the system will generate automatic messages, which can then be conveyed to the power consumers either via e-mail or through messages on the mobile phone. “This is a system which is futuristic. We have asked the company to incorporate certain things to cater to our local requirements,” he added.
To a question, he said the system is based on a wireless system on towers, adding that such a system will be trouble-free in conveying the messages.Meanwhile, the Power Minister has reiterated that old vehicles with the department will be replaced with new ones.
“The department has around 159 old vehicles which have completed 15 years, but are yet to run the mandatory 1.5 lakh km mileage. We will scrap the old vehicles and go for new ones with modified cabins for the staff to travel in a safe confine,” he said.
