Can the new Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate provide relief to the beleaguered employees of the South Goa Administration of Comunidades by disbursing their pending salaries of five months before the ensuing Ganesh Chathurti?
The 25-odd employees have been keeping their fingers crossed over receiving their salaries ahead of the Ganesh festivities.
After calling on the new Revenue Minister, hopes have been raised that these employees might receive their salaries on the eve of the festival.
Sources in the know said that Jennifer has taken serious cognisance of the delay in the payment of salaries of the employees and is believed to have called for the file from the revenue officials.
The Goan understands that the minister has told her staff to arrange a meeting with the Administrator of Comunidade and other revenue officials to discuss the matter later this week.
During her visit to the District Collectorate, South, on Monday, Jennifer had a meeting with a delegation of the Comunidade employees, who brought to her notice their plight of not receiving their salaries on time. The Revenue Minister had also discussed the issues pertaining to the office of the Administrator of Comunidades.
Though the government had cleared the salaries of the Comunidade employees pertaining to the last several months, salaries of the last five months are still pending.
“Like many a government servant, we can also celebrate the ensuing festival with our families if we receive our salaries on time. We only hope the Revenue Minister will intervene and sanction the salaries before the festivities,” said a Comunidade employee.
