Water Resources Department Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues has mulled inter-linking of water nullahs, creation of additional nullahs and widening of existing nullahs for quick and smooth movement of storm water.
The WRD Minister has further assured Margao MLA and Leader of the Opposition, Digambar Kamat, that his department will take up work of improvement of the storm water nullahs in the commercial capital.
Rodrigues had a meeting with the Margao MLA at the WRD office, Rawanfond, on Tuesday to find out a solution to the storm water network in the city. The Margao MLA drew attention of the WRD Minister to long-pending issues pertaining to the storm water drains in the city.
Special reference was made to the Portuguese-era drains, many of which are buried underground and have been defunct over the years, resulting in flooding of several areas during the monsoons. The meeting also deliberated on the flooding of the low-lying areas of Comba near the subway, with the Minister assuring to do the needful
Filipe Neri informed The Goan after the meeting that he has assured the Margao MLA that the WRD department will not lag behind in undertaking flood-control measures in the city by taking up the work of improvement of the existing storm water nullahs.
The WRD Minister announced that his department will take up inter-linking of the existing nullahs and create new nullahs to resolve the flooding and drainage issues in many parts of the State.
