The entrance to the South Goa District Hospital was inundated by the rain water, throwing up questions over the provision for drainage along the highway road and the delay by the government to develop the parking area between the hospital building compound and the highway.
Visitors to the hospital, including patients and their relatives had to wade through water at the entrance to make it to the hospital building.
Citizens demanded to know how come the hospital entrance was flooded with water, and why the parking area between the road and the compound wall has not been developed till date.
Sources in the know pointed out that the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) had prepared a plan for development of the area into a parking lot to accommodate the growing number of four-wheelers and two-wheelers. The plan, however, is yet to take off till date for reasons best known to the authorities.
Goa Forward-backed Margao Councilors Raju Naik and Pooja Naik slammed the authorities for the sorry state of affairs at the entrance to the hospital building.
Meanwhile, Shadow Council for Margao Convener Savio Coutinho bhas criticized the PWD for their utter neglect in addressing the issue of water logging at the entrance of South Goa District hospital.
Due to the water logging, Coutinho pointed out that poor patients who come to get treatment for their sickness, have to wade through dirty water as they enter the hospital premises. This could further aggravate their sickness.
He pointed out that since the main road in front of the District Hospital is very frequently provided Hotmix carpet, the level of the road has gone higher than the hospital entrance concrete level. As such due to the rains water accumulation takes place causing immense hardships to the patients visiting the hospital.
“The PWD needs to take very simple steps to allow the water to drain off, but the lethargic behaviour of the department leads to all these problems”, he said.
