In a move that could prove extremely beneficial to Goans in the coming days, the state government has finally announced its decision to designate the newly constructed premises of South Goa District Hospital as the third Covid Hospital in the state with 400-500 bed capacity.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday disclosed the development in a tweet. "In view of the rising cases of Covid-19 in the state, our Government has taken a decision to designate the new South Goa District Hospital as an additional Covid Hospital. 

We stand committed for giving better treatment and medical facilities to the people of Goa," reads the CM's tweet. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane also took to Twitter to announce the decision. in a series of tweet, Rane stated that the decision was arrived at after a joint consultation with CM Sawant.

"We shall be converting the South Goa District Hospital into a dedicated COVID Hospital with 400-500 bed capacity, in addition to ESIC and Sub-District Hospital Ponda. We have appointed Smt Sunanda Amonkar & Shri Rajesh Patil to manage COVID operations at the South Goa District Hospital along with Medical Superintendent Dr Deepa Correia," Rane informed.

With this, the state's Covid Hospital bed capacity has risen to almost 840-940 beds, a huge leap that could go a long way in handling the rising number of Covid-19 cases in Goa. The active number of case sin Goa presently stands at 4,501.
