South district hospital to be designated 'tertiary hospital'

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) will soon be designated as a tertiary hospital, equipped with all facilities.

Rane said, the SGDH has over 1,000 patients visiting its OPD daily and it is the government's responsibility to upgrade it as Goa's second tertiary hospital after the GMC. “We want to make it a Centre of Excellence," Rane said, while admitting to the failure to upgrade its facilities till date.

Rane said, he is continuously working on creating posts and taking on board some specialists for the SGDH and that more vehicles will be allocated to take care of the ambulance shortages there.

The minister said six ambulances with the latest life-saving equipment will be allotted to the hospital very soon, adding that Rajya Sabha MP, Sadanand Shet Tanavade, has pledged two under MPLAD. He also said that his own Trust will donate two ambulances to the SGDH, even as he added that 16 new ambulances will be procured soon through CSR funding.
