Frequent transfers fuel questions about governance and government apathy toward 90 comunidade bodies
MARGAO
The office of the Administrator of South Goa Comunidades is back in the new again, but for a different reason.
The office of the South Goa Comunidades got its fifth administrator in the current year, throwing up questions over the administrative instability plaguing the office of the South Goa Comunidades Administrator.
The government has transferred and posted Margao Deputy Collector, Deepak Vaingankar as the new South Goa Comunidades Administrator in place of Prajeet Chodankar, who has since been transferred as Deputy Collector, Margao.
Take note, the new administrator of South Goa Comunidades will not be functioning as a full-fledged Administrator for the simple reason that he is holding additional charge of Forest settlement.
With Vaingankar assuming office as the South Goa Comunidades Administration, the office will see the fifth officer to take charge of the age-old institution, having jurisdiction on as many as 90 comunidade bodies in South Goa.
Consider this. Till mid-January this year, Mangaldas Gaonkar had presided over the affairs of the office of South Goa Comunidades Administration before the government shunted him out of office.
After transferring Gaonkar from office, the government posted then Margao Deputy Collector Ganesh Barve as the new South Goa Comunidades Administrator. Barve did not stay there for long as the government transferred him in May last and was replaced by Abhijit Nikam.
Incidentally, Nikam presided over the post for just a month before he was transferred abruptly and replaced by Prajeet Chodankar.
Nikam had initiated during his short stint in office the process of recommending to the government to declare the 30 Comunidade bodies as defunct. Sources in the know informed The Goan that his successor Chodankar too could not complete the process of recommending to the government certain comunidade bodies as defunct and the new Administrator will have to grapple with the issue during his stint in office.
President of Comunidades of Margao, Aquem, Davorlim and Dicarple, Savio Correia has slammed the government for effecting frequent transfers of Administrators. “We fail to understand how Administrators of Comunidades are transferred frequently. This administrative instability has adversely affected the functioning of the Administrator of Comunidades, South Goa. This further goes to show the government’s indifference and apathy towards the comunidade bodies,” he added.
