Even as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday assured that he would seek an update on the situation at the South Goa District Hospital, Madganvcho Awaaz and youth leader Prabhav Naik on Sunday said the government had failed to address the key concerns plaguing the hospital, even after two years since the memorandum was submitted to Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and consistent follow-ups at various levels.
Naik said that two years had passed since the memorandum was submitted on August 30, 2024, highlighting various shortcomings at Hospicio Hospital, yet the situation remained largely unchanged. Patients and their families continued to face difficulties due to shortages of beds, staff and ambulances.
“Continued shortage of beds remains a serious concern, particularly when patients require admission and adequate healthcare facilities. The shortage of staff further adds to the burden on the existing system and affects patients seeking timely treatment,” Naik stated.
He also pointed out that the shortage of ambulances continued to create difficulties for patients and their families, especially those requiring urgent transportation and medical assistance.
Naik said that the promised Neuro Unit and Cath Lab had also remained unfulfilled, despite the need for such specialised facilities at the district hospital. The delay continued to deprive South Goa residents of essential specialised healthcare closer to home, he said.
Naik urged the government to grant SGDH tertiary hospital status and make it fully operational with the required facilities and resources. He said that after two years, the people of South Goa deserved more than promises and called for concrete action to strengthen SGDH.
