VIPs beware! The South Goa district police, who have launched a concerted drive against vehicles with tinted glass, said rules do not give an exemption to any category of people to move around with such dark glasses.
That’s not all. The district police chief, Pankaj Kumar Singh, has made a fervent plea to the citizens to share the registration numbers of vehicles with tinted glasses and two-wheelers with modified silencers, promising that the men-in-uniform will go to the houses of the violators to challan them.
“There’s no exception to the rule on vehicles with tinted glasses. The law does not provide for an exemption under the law for any category of persons on tinted glasses,” the SP said when asked
whether there’s any exemption provided for the VIPs in this regard.
He pointed out that the month-long special drive against motor vehicle violators, including driving in cars having tinted glasses, modified silencers and riding without helmets, has earned rich dividends, with the police booking around 400 vehicles across South Goa till date.
“We are focusing on the motorists who are violating the traffic laws with impunity. The police have focused on violations such as driving vehicles with tinted glasses and riding without helmets and modified silencers,” he added.
Seeking cooperation from the people of South Goa, the SP said, “My message to the youngsters, who have modified silencers, is that we will challan them if they come on the road with such two-wheelers?”
The SP said the police were contemplating on sending an advisory to certain motorcycle dealers to ensure the silencers conform to the laid down standards.
“If any citizens come across any two-wheeler with modified silencers on the road, just share the number with the police. I can assure you, we will go to their houses and challan them. The drive will continue,” he added.
