South Goa Zilla Panchayat members seek monthly honorarium of Rs 50,000

MARGAO

South Goa Zilla Panchayat on Wednesday adopted a resolution demanding that the government provide a monthly honorarium of Rs 50,000 for each of Zilla Panchayat members.

The meeting also decided to entrust responsibility to the Zilla Panchayat members to personally serve the notice of the postponed District Planning Committee (DPC) meeting scheduled on January 11 to the MLAs and Chairpersons of Municipal Councils in their respective jurisdictions.

At the meeting of the Zilla Panchayat chaired by Chairperson Suvarna Tendulkar, members called for a hike in honorarium for the district Panchayat body members as well. They pointed out that the government has already effected a hike in honorarium for Sarpanchas, Panchayat members, Municipal Chairpersons, and Councilors of the local Civic bodies.

When the media later sought to know from the ZP Chairperson the amount of honorarium requested by the ZP members, Tendulkar said that although the ZP members have called for a monthly honorarium of Rs 50,000, it is for the government to make the final call on the issue.

The ZP chairperson pointed out that since the postponed DPC will now be held on January 11, it has been decided to send the meeting notices to the MLAs and the Municipal Chairpersons with the ZP members in their respective jurisdictions.
