As promised by Sub-Divisional Police Officer, DySP Dinraj Govekar on Sunday, SP Prabhudessai had a meeting with Auda and a freedom fighter on the long pending demand to house the women’s police station in a spacious premise. After much discussions, the SP told the duo in the presence of DySP Govekar that he would immediately write to the district Collector to allot suitable space in the old Collectorate.
When The Goan contacted SP Prabhudesai to shed light on the meeting, he said that his office will pursue with the district collector the space in the old Collectorate building to house the police station.
When pointed out that the women’s right activist has been demanding the shifting of the Traffic cell to the old Collectorate and house the women’s police station in the police headquarters, the district police chief said the main priority for the moment is to get the space from the Collector. “Once the space is allotted to the police, we can later on decide whether the traffic cell or the women’s police station should go to the old Collectorate,” he said.
Auda Viegas had on Sunday sat on a dharna in front of the Margao police station demanding a spacious and well ventilated premise for the South Goa Women police station. Amongst other things, Auda has been demanding proper arrangements for investigation, recording of statements, waiting room, toilets, etc.
Demand was also made for placement of a sensitive police officer, preferably a woman officer to deal with child related cases under the POSCO Act, besides an exclusive vehicle for the women police station.
