A day after the government constituted a Joint Special Cell (JSC) to decide permission for mega events in Goa, particularly keeping in mind the controversy surrounding Sunburn EDM; Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Nidhin Valsan said that a special police team will be stationed in and around the Sunburn venue to ensure zero tolerance for drugs.
“We will have a special drug detection team comprising the crime branch, anti-narcotics cell, and the local police station(s) to ensure nobody is involved in peddling or under the influence of drugs,” he said, responding to media queries on the sidelines of Goa Liberation Day function on Tuesday.
He further commented that the JSC will follow the agenda listed by the government while granting permission for any mega event.
“Various legal aspects will be looked into,” the officer added.
The government has tasked the JSC with considering and granting permissions for mega events within the framework of the Noise Action Plan within their respective districts, and if any violations are reported, it shall take into account these violations while granting subsequent permissions.
The JSC has Collectors of the respective districts as its Chairpersons, while the Member Secretary of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) or his/her representative and Superintendents of Police of the respective districts are the members, and Area Deputy Collector/Sub Divisional Magistrate as the Member Secretary.
This year, the government has so far granted a provisional NOC to Sunburn to hold the event from December 28-30 from 4 pm to 10 pm only while laying down terms and conditions such as submitting to the Tourism Department the Disaster Management Plan, list of artists with their nationalities along with visa type, etc.
The department has also sought a No Dues Certificate of last year obtained from various departments.
