Three Indian tourists were knocked down by a speeding car which had a 27-year-old Russian on the wheel near the ‘23 Restaruant’ at Arpora in the wee hours of Saturday.
While the three tourists died in the impact, the accused foreigner who was driving the car is also seriously injured and has been admitted in the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
The deceased “ Dilipkumar Bang and Manojkumar Soni “ are residents of Hyderabad, Telangana and Mahesh Sharma is from Nashik, Maharashtra.
The accident happened at around 3.30 am.
According to Anjuna police, five Indian tourists were chatting by the roadside at Arpora and their XUV 700 car was parked by the side of the road facing towards Calangute.
While the driver and another friend were already in the car, three others were in the process of boarding the car when a Polo car driven by the Russian Anton Bychkov came speeding from Anjuna and dragged all three at least 50 metres away.
After dashing the tourists, the Russian lost control of his car which swirled and fell head on into a Nullah on the left side of the road.
The three tourists and the Russian were immediately rushed to the North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa where the three tourists were declared dead while the foreigner who was also seriously injured was shifted to the GMC where he is undergoing treatment.
Police have recorded the statements of the survivors “ the driver and the friend of the deceased tourists.
“We have registered a case against the owner of the Polo car who had possibly given a private car on rent to the Russian,” Anjuna PI, Prashal Desai informed.
Anjuna Police are investigating further.
