In a major hit and run accident involving a rent-a-car, a lady rider was knocked down by a speeding vehicle on the NH66 at Sirlim, leaving her critically injured.
The incident, which was caught on CCTV camera has sent shock waves and once again brought to the fore the critical question of reckless driving by rent-a-car vehicles.
In this particular incident, the lady rider was riding her scooter on her side, when the rent-a-car jeep rammed against her on the wrong side.
The lady rider, who fell on the road was rushed to the South Goa district hospital, Margao. As her injuries were critical in nature, she was later shifted to the Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the Margao police has on late Tuesday arrested the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident. Police said the vehicle was driven by a 19 year old Swaraj Aktab, a native of Maharashtra. PI Arun Desai informed that the accused has been arrested for attempt to murder.
