Spouse killer remanded
BICHOLIM: Amit Kumar Das (42), the accused arrested on charges of murdering his two spouses, has been remanded to seven days police custody.
According to Bicholim PI Narayan Chimulkar, the accused was produced before JMFC Bicholim on Thursday and was remanded to seven days police custody.
It may be recalled that the accused allegedly murdered his second wife, Helen Sarkar (31) at Kudchirem-Bicholim, where he used to stay along with her in a house belonging to his friend. The accused committed the crime on March 24, at about 11.30 am, after suspecting her of having an extra-marital affair.
The accused later dumped the body into an unused laterite stone pit situated near his house and moved a large boulder on it, to appear that Helen had died after the boulder rolled over body.
During the course of investigation, the accused also confessed to killing his first wife Maneedeepa at Anjuna in February.
Meanwhile, the villagers have requested the Bicholim Police to conduct inquiry of the person who had given his house for Das to stay in.
