OLD GOA
On the backdrop of St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar alleging attempts to block development works in the constituency by his opponents, the Goa Velha panchayat trumped the MLA and went ahead with the inaugural function announcing the commencement of a drain cum road work at Uddir.
In fact on May 11, Goa Velha Sarpanch Emilia Caiado, Deputy Sarpanch Monica Miranda and Local Panch Iyno D’Souza were present at the function which was blessed by the assistant parish priest of St Andrew’s Church Fr Mario Carvalho.
Undone by the snub by the Goa Velha panchayat, MLA Borkar held a function of his own and held the inaugural of the work along with his supporters on Saturday.
When contacted, MLA Borkar said after he received proposal from the Goa Velha panchayat for the work at Uddir, he personally followed it up and got it sanctioned.
“However, only after technical sanction was granted and tender approved did panch Iyno D’Souza get involved and laid claim that he got the same sanctioned,” Borkar stated.
However, panch D’Souza said the panchayat sent the proposal directly to the PWD minister and got the work sanctioned.
