Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo on Friday said panchayats can act against illegal constructions within its jurisdiction but could not do much when the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department issues licence to projects.
“Illegal constructions are cause for concern. Panchayats can take action against an illegal construction when they receive complaints against such illegalities. But when the TCP department issues the licence for construction then the panchayat could do very little in taking action against the project,” she said.
She said if the panchayat denies NOC to such licenced constructions, then they approach the BDO and the director of panchayats who directly issue them NOCs to carry on with the construction.
The Siolim MLA was responding to queries of hill cutting and sprouting of illegal constructions especially in Vaddy, Siolim.
