Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar who paid an unexpected visit to the office Women and Child Welfare Department in the taluka saw that many officers were not present, including its head Pratibha Malik who was out of the office at the moment. She was contacted on phone and asked to reach the office.
Explaining the reason for the absence of the employees in the office hours, Malik explained that some of the employees have gone to a government workshop.
The MLA expressed his dissatisfaction over the mismanagement as the public was made to wait in the absence of appropriate seating arrangements.
There was a crowd gathered to link the Aadhar cards but there was no arrangement for them to sit.
The MLA asked the employees to bring chairs out and make the public sit.
Addressing her grievance to Arlekar, Malik complained that the roof of the office is leaking and the concrete falling off.
The employees have to keep buckets during the rains, she said and explained that the furniture has to be shifted from place to place. She requested the MLA to get the roofing system repaired.
Arlekar called the PWD engineer and instructed the department to start the repair work.
While speaking to the local media, the MLA stated that he would be visiting government offices without prior intimation, to check how the work is going on, and whether the officers come on time.
Those who leave early in the evening also would be penalised, he warned.
