Varca SC stunned Areal by a solitary goal to enter the semifinals of the Cavelossim Panchayat Rolling Trophy Inter-Village Football tournament sponsored by Cavelossim Panchayat and organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim and played at Fr Druston and Wellington ground Cavelossim.
Both the teams were well balanced and played an attacking football that delighted the large crowd. In the very 5th minute, Aryan Carvalho of Areal fired a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area that hit the cross bar and bounced back into play. Both teams crossed over with the score 0-0.
Areal keeper Joseph was kept busy in saving shots from Joyson Nunes and Jobern Cardozo, however he could not block Aarron Barretto’s shot from the goal mouth to give Varca a 1-0 lead. Aaron of Varca missed another opportunity to increase the lead when his grounder just kissed the outside of the goal post and went out of the play.
In the dying moments, Marcus of Areal missed a golden opportunity to level the score, when his shot from close ballooned over the cross bar. A last attempt by Rayman who took a freekick from the edge of the penalty area sailed over the cross bar. The Man of the Match award was handed over to Aaron Barretto of Varca.
