QUEPEM
This is exactly what has happened since July 13, when both clerks at the Curchorem post office have been deputed for training on rotation, severely hampering services to the public.
According to sources, the clerk handling speed post and other registered letters was deputed for training from July 13 and resumed on July 19. This left the other clerk to handle only Senior Citizens Saving scheme, Recurring Deposits, Kisan Vikas Patra and saving accounts, while services pertaining to speed post and other registered letters were paralysed.
Following the first clerk\'s return on July 19, the second clerk handling saving account and other schemes left for training for five days. Left with no option, the postmaster has been compelled to handle the second clerk\'s duties. "Earlier, there were many staffers and the service was quick, but now only three staff, including the post master, are left to handle the day-to-day affairs. People have to stand in queues, as only one clerk handles the Senior Citizens Saving scheme, Recurring Deposits, Kisan Vikas Patra and saving accounts," said the source. "The other clerk handles only speed post, registration, parcels and window delivery, while there is no one to look after the RTI help desk counter."
When contacted, postmaster Cermila Travasso said the Curchorem post office has been sanctioned three clerks and a postmaster, but said only two clerks have been deputed at the post office.
