Stakeholders in the transformation of the Cafe Bhonsle Square i.e. shopkeepers in the area, decided on Wednesday that they would approach the High Court of Bombay at Goa if plans for redevelopment of the square did not go their way.
Dissatisfied with the outcome of the stakeholder-consultation meet held by the Smart City Mission team on Tuesday, the stakeholders held a meeting of their own the following day.
After the meeting, stakeholders contacted the director of Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) Sidharth Kuncalienkar, and requested him for a meeting within the next two days.
Stakeholders unanimously agreed at their private meeting, that the plans of the IPSCDL to redevelop the Cafe Bhonsle Square were not in keeping with the city’s priorities.
“They should plan a proper parking area first of all,” one of the stakeholders told The Goan.
“What about the bad condition of the roads of the city?” he asked, stressing that if things were not done as per what the stakeholders wanted, they would not hesitate to take up the matter in court.
When contacted, Kuncalienkar confirmed that he would meet up with the stakeholders within the next two days. He also assured that their requests would definitely be taken into consideration.
“Of course, we will take their requests into consideration,” said Kuncalienkar, adding, “I’m not sure what their requests are at the moment, but we will discuss and look into it.”
At the stakeholder consultation meet held on Tuesday, stakeholders had expressed their apprehensions to the IPSCDL team.
While IPSCDL proposes to redevelop the Cafe Bhonsle Square, it also intends to cut down on vehicle usage instead of creating more parking spaces.
