Stand against foeticide, sexual harassment, DySP tells women

PONDA

Encouraging women to take a strong stand against foeticide, sexual harassment and domestic violence, DySP Sunita Sawant has also appealed to women to lodge a police complaint if any crime is committed against them.

DySP Sawant was addressing a function organised by Ponda Taluka Legal Services Committee at Prabhunagar-Ponda, in connection with harassment faced by women.

DySP Sawant, who spoke on topic 'the rights of women and violence against women including sexual harassment at workplace', appealed to the women gathered to lodge a police complaint if any crime is committed against them.

“If you are afraid to go to the police station to lodge a complaint, please seek the help of NGOs. But victims should lodge complaints to nab culprits or that person will repeat the crime,” she said.

Sawant also informed the women about new amendments to laws on sexual offences.

“Women should know that even stalking by any person is a crime. It should be brought to the notice of police, such acts can be curbed only if complaints are received,” she reiterated.

According to Sawant, parents and girls should be very vigilant about the happenings wherever they go.

In her 30-minute awareness lecture, Sawant also appealed to parents to treat their girl child on par with boys.

The laws in regard to senior citizens were also put forth at the meet. Adv Aruna Sanadi spoke on free legal aid and Shirley Dias compered the programme, while Kiran Gaude co-ordinated the event.
