State’s migrant exodus continues

State’s migrant exodus continues

VASCO
The exodus of migrant labourers and daily wage workers continued in the State with hundreds gathering in the port town since afternoon to board trains like the Nizamuddin Express and Patna Express leaving from Vasco on Wednesday.

Several people were seen at different locations in the port town as they awaited the train timing.

Many people with their belongings were seen walking towards the Vasco Railway station while families with small children were seen trying to get their tickets to return to their native places.

During the day, police and railway officials informed the passengers that people boarding the Nizamuddin Express could assemble at one area and the passengers wanting to leave by the Patna Express could gather at a different area to avoid mixing of the large number of people that had arrived in Vasco.

While some workers were leaving from Vasco, many others had arrived in the port town to travel to their home states.

By Wednesday evening, the situation was such that the huge crowd began assembling at the Vasco railway station. While there was no social distancing maintained, Goa Police and Railways Police tried to manage the crowd.

The crowd tried to move inside the railway station as the trains arrived and there was utter chaos with the police trying their best to manage the situation.

Railway officials had also placed a counter on the entry to check for valid tickets before they could allow passengers inside the station.

Railway officials also directed the passengers to board the train immediately after their tickets were checked so that there was no rush on the platforms.

Many seemed to be without a ticket and hoped to board the train in a bid to get back to their homes. Finally, both trains left with full capacity from Vasco.
