Sarpanchas from coastal Salcete villages — including Benaulim, Varca, Orlim and Cavelossim — met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who also holds the Home portfolio, and submitted a memorandum requesting a new and well-equipped police station for Colva.

They pointed out that the current police station is in poor condition and lacks basic facilities.

Benaulim Sarpanch Xavier Pereira said the Colva police station is operating out of a private house. “Being a tourist area, we need a proper police station. We informed the Chief Minister about the pathetic condition of the current building, which does not have even basic amenities,” he said.

Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz said the delegation urged the Chief Minister to visit the station and see the condition for himself.

Orlim Sarpanch Simon Pereira, Carmona Sarpanch Sandra Martins and Varca panchayat member Solan Furtado were also part of the delegation.
