In a move that could boost spiritual tourism, the State government has proposed setting up a spiritual museum and gurukul at Latambarcem village in Bicholim taluka.
The Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board (IPB) has recommended declaring 68,550 sq m of land in Latambarcem as an Investment Promotion Area for developing a spiritual museum, libraries, archives, a children’s park, and other cultural facilities.
The Siddhagiri Gurukul Trust, based in Maharashtra, has received in-principle approval from the IPB to develop a museum showcasing the 16 Samskaras of Sanatan Dharma, along with a children’s park and other cultural spaces. A dedicated library featuring books and documents related to spirituality will also be set up.
The government has invited public objections to the proposal. Those wishing to object must submit their objections in writing, with reasons, to the Director of Industries, Trade and Commerce, Panaji, within a month.
The Siddhagiri Gurukul Trust, a charitable organisation, has already developed a similar project in Kaneri, Kolhapur. The Kolhapur museum is known for its lifelike statues and exhibits depicting Indian village life, heritage, and festivals.
