State govt writes to Centre to restart direct flight between Goa & London

CM highlights hardship faced by Goans after AI suspended flights in June

PANAJI

As promised in the Assembly, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has written to the Union Civil Aviation Ministry asking for urgent action to restart the suspended Air India non-stop flight between Goa and London-Gatwick.

In his letter to Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, Sawant said the direct flight is important for Goans travelling to the UK for work and education. The flight was stopped in June after the Ahmedabad plane crash. Although Air India planned to restart the service from 15 July, flights have not yet resumed.

“The service was to restart from 15 July 2025, but Air India has not started flights on this route,” Sawant wrote.

He also said many Goans use this flight for work, and the suspension has caused a lot of inconvenience to those travelling between Goa and London.

Sawant asked the Union Minister to take up the matter with Air India and ensure the early restart of this important international flight.

The issue was first raised on the opening day of the Assembly session when Calangute MLA Michael Lobo expressed concern over the sudden suspension.

He noted there was no official explanation on why the flights stopped or when they would restart, even though many Goans use this flight for work and study.

On Wednesday morning, AAP MLA Venzy Viegas also raised the issue in the Goa Assembly and asked for an update on the state government’s follow-up with the Union Ministry.
