State interest paramount: Shripad to GF

MARGAO
Union Minister of State for Ports, Tourism and Shipping, Shripad Naik, has assured Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai that he will keep in mind the interest of the state while examining issues raised by the MLA on coal handling at MPT and cruise tourism.

Welcoming Naik’s statement, Sardesai urged the minister to be the voice of Goans in Delhi. He said people of Goa are looking forward to him for promoting Goa as a clean tourism destination.

In a letter, the Goa Forward Chief had on Sunday made a fervent plea to Naik to take immediate steps to halt the development of MPT as a coal transportation hub and act to convert it into a tourism port. Sardesai had also requested Naik to advise the MPT authorities to put a full stop to their expansion and concentrate on making the port truly international for high-class tourism

“As a minister for tourism, you are in an ideal position to promote, not only MPT, but all of Goa as a tourism destination with a difference, promoting clean, healthy and family tourism,” Sardesai appealed in his letter to the Union Minister.
