State may soon start agriculture college: CM

Says university also needed for Goan students

The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that Goa may soon start an Agriculture college and if everything goes right will start its own Agriculture university in future.  

"At the initial state we are ready to start an Agriculture college in Goa. We are going to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Konkan Krishi Vidyapith, Dapoli. Will initially comence the college first.

If everything goes smoothly we can start from the June of this year itself",  said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant while speaking at the function at Panaji.

In future we can think of agriculture university also, CM added.  

CM was Chief Guest at the National conference of Agriculture economics 2022 organised by the Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth Dapoli and Maharashtra Society of Agricultural economics.

CM emphasised that Goa should have agriculture university, agriculture college as many students from Goa are studying in colleges of other states.

CM said that motivation is required so that people get attracted towards agriculture as before.

While stating that fertilisers are creating adverse effects on Soil, CM commended the work of Sadguru from Coimbatore who has started the Save Soil movement for conservation of soil.

"Such an Initiative is very important. Fertilisers are giving adverse effects", said CM.

CM said that the agriculture production in India should increase as we have more human and land resources available in the country.

"We are the second highest populated country. We have land also. Now we are producing 12 per cent of the world's food. We have to increase the food production", said CM.

CM applauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts to increase export of food during Covid days.

"During Covid we were able to export due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi", said CM.

CM said that farmers are getting direct benefit as cash due to initiative of PM Modi.
