Stationery shop near police station burgled in Mapusa, 1 held

A 32-year-old man from Shiroda but residing at Guirim has been arrested on charges of burgling a stationery and xerox shop barely 300 metres from the police station in Mapusa.

According to police reports, the burglary took place sometime between 10.30 pm on Friday and 7 am on Saturday.

Dineshbhai Valgibhai Prajapati, owner of Krishna Stationery and Xerox shop, filed a police complaint stating that a burglar had broken the lock on the main door of the shop and stole cash of Rs 65,000 from a box in the counter of the shop.

The suspect's face was captured on CCTV footage of an establishment at the scene. Acting on the footage, Mapusa police began investigation and a police team located the suspect, Maizeem D'Cruz, at the Mapusa bus stand area.

Police nabbed him and took him to the Mapusa police station, where he was later arrested in the connection.

According to police, D'Cruz, has several theft cases registered against him at various police stations across the State. Hailing from Shiroda, the accused has been living in a rented room in Guirim.
