Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has warned the people of Goa, particularly parents, advising them not to fall prey to hoax calls from cybercriminals demanding ransom for the alleged release of their kidnapped children.
Sawant emphasized the importance of reporting such incidents to the police and refraining from paying any money. “This is a big racket operating from different countries. People should inform the police and should not pay money,” Sawant said.
The Chief Minister's warning came in response to concerns raised during the Zero Hour by Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar. Amonkar highlighted the growing anxiety among parents due to the increasing incidents of cybercrimes and cyber frauds in the state.
“Recently, several parents received fake calls from kidnappers demanding ransom under the pretext of having kidnapped their children,” Amonkar stated. He urged the government to thoroughly investigate this alarming issue and take immediate and effective steps to address the matter.
Amonkar's remarks reflect the broader sentiment among Goa's residents, who are increasingly fearful of falling victim to such cyber scams. The spate of recent incidents has put parents on edge, worrying about the safety of their children.
In his response, Chief Minister Sawant reassured the public that the government is taking the issue seriously. Sawant stressed the importance of public awareness and vigilance in preventing these scams from succeeding.
