State Government has initiated efforts and is endeavouring to face any disaster in the future asserted Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant. He further mentioned that to deal effectively with any disaster whatever equipment that is required in Police and Fire services the government has started to procure that equipment he said and added that due to climate change any disaster can occur at any time and taking this into account under Goa state Disaster Management, the government has started almost 13 disaster alarming centre’s in all the talukas of Goa.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a function organised by Goa State Disaster Management Authority in association with the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services to distribute certificates to Aapda Sakhi/Mitra in the city on Tuesday.
Speaking further he congratulated all the Aapda Sakhi/Mitras for voluntarily coming forward to work for society. He said that during the disaster, the community plays an important role in disaster management. He further urged all the Aapda Sakhi/Mitras to get themselves involved in tackling disasters and also provide community service while working as Aapda Sakhi/Mitras. This Aapda Sakhi/Mitras service is like a Home guard service in Police he said.
The Chief Minister also released a handbook on Aapada Sakhi on the occasion.
Director of Fire and Emergency Service Nitin Raiker while informing about the implementation of Aapda Sakhi Scheme in Goa said that the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services being the nodal authority and having an association with the State Disaster Management authority has enrolled 350 Aapda Mitra in the State of Goa. The Goa State Fire Force Training centre has already trained 37 community volunteers which include 22 Aapda Mitra and 15 Aapda Sakhi. He further informed that the training for the remaining community volunteers will be imparted by December 2022.
Speaking further he said Aapda Mitras who have been trained are capable of assisting the public during any disaster in the State. They have been trained in various components of disaster management such as earthquake and safety, lifting and stabilising load, basic search and rescue, fire safety, flood cyclone, tsunami basic life support and cardiopulmonary basic situation, control bleeding and wound care, muscular injury, snake bite and animal bite, rope rescue, nuclear and chemical emergencies, landslide including flood rescue training he added.
Present on the occasion were Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Secretary (Revenue) Sandip Jaques IAS, Jt Secretary, NDMA Kunal Satyarthi, North Goa Collector Mamu Hage IAS and other dignitaries.
