BICHOLIM
Bharat Mata Ki Jai and other organisations organised an hour-long protest near the Shivaji statue at the old bus stand in Bicholim on Friday, to extend support to the people of Melauli who are agitating against the IIT project.
The organisations insisted that the State government should shift the IIT to another place if the locals were opposed to the project.
Addressing the protestors, Bhola Gad said they were not opposed to the IIT per se, but if locals of Melauli did not want the IIT on grounds that it affected their livelihood, then the project should be moved elsewhere.
Atmaram Gaonkar demanded the withdrawal of offence registered against the locals in connection with the clashes at Melauli. He also denounced the police action on the protestors.
Others who also spoke included Suresh Parwar, Shailesh Fatarpekar, Dhiraj Sawant, Nitin Malgaonkar and Dattaram Harmalkar.
