President of Konkani Bhasha Mandal Anwesha Singbal stated that the Marathi protagonists  should desist from making obnoxious comments about Konkani language on social media and thereby create rift among Goans.

She was speaking  at Porvorim at the ‘Asmitai Zagor’ programme organised by Konkani Bhasha Mandal on Opinion Poll day opposite Gomantak Marathi Academy. Konkani writers, representatives of various educational institutions and Konkani lovers participated in the programme.

Singbal further mentioned that Goa government has declared Konkani as the official language of the state and it is one of the scheduled languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Opinion Poll Day is as important as Liberation Day for Goans.

"It was on this day in 1967, Goans voted against merging Goa with Maharashtra and chose to remain a Union Territory. Opinion Poll Day or Asmitai Dis has given Goans a separate identity. Marathi protagonists out of frustration these days have started posting obnoxious comments about Konkani language on social media and are attempting to create divisions among Goans.

"They should stop this immediately. They should first learn the history of Konkani language and then pass comments. It is sad that the people who could not manage the affairs of the Gomantak Marathi Academy are passing derogatory remarks against Konkani. The Konkani lovers will not tolerate their language of hatred,"  added Singbal.

Yugank Naik, Vaibhav Kalangutkar, Malcolm D’costa, Pankaj Namshilar also spoke on this occasion. Later to register their protest against Marathi protagonists, an effigy of the donkey was burnt. Puroshattam Verlekar compered the programme.
