People of Cuncolim under the banner of Cuncolkarancho Ekvott has warned of a stir if the BJP government fails to honour the long pending demand to stop the fish meal plant at the Cuncolim industrial estate.
People expressed their shock and surprise how the fish meal plant is still allowed to operate when the Goa State Pollution Control Board on previous occasions had accused the plant for violating the pollution norms.
Addressing the media, Cuncolkarancho Ekvott vice president Sidharth Kambli lamented that though there were strong protests from the local residents against the setting up of the fish meal plant at the Cuncolim IDC, the government had given the green signal to set up the polluting plant. “Velim villagers had opposed the fish meal plant in their village, but the same was allowed at the Cuncolim industrial estate after the new government came to power in the State in 2012," he said.
Kambli and others blamed the Cuncolim MLA for supporting the fish meal plant, cautioning that the unit is posing health hazard to the local populace. “The local MLA fully supported the fish meal plant to get the clearance despite strong protests by the local population for reasons best known to the MLA," he said.
Saying that the present government has totally become a dictator and has destroyed the democratic rights of people and running the administration against the wishes of the people, Kambli said the people of Cuncolim under the banner of Cuncolkarancho Ekvott now appeal to the government to immediately revoke all the clearances given to the fish meal plant.
He further demanded that the Village Panchayat of Ambaulim revoke the NOC granted to the fish meal owner to construct boundary wall.
