He has also directed them to take sewage connection within 45 days of the notice, failing which MMC would resort to stringent action and even confiscate utensils and clothes being washed in the water bodies.

“Also from Chaferan to Pai Hospital, residents of the locality are washing clothes and utensils in the Nallah, a source of pollution to the water bodies. This act of residents are in violation of Solid Waste Management Rules,” stated Fernandes in his notice.

“Under the directions of NGT, residents in the MMC jurisdiction should stop discharge of sewage, bathroom, household water in the water bodies.”

The notice also directs people to obtain necessary sewage connections, wherever available, by constructing septic tank/soak pit within their land by following necessary procedure within a period of 45 days.

“Residents should stop washing clothes and utensils in the Nallah forthwith, failing which, the council will take further action to confiscate the material/utensils.”

“They should also close the outlet of the sewage line connected to the Nallah, failing which action deemed fit will be taken and cost of recovery will be taken up as arrears of house tax,” stated Fernandes.
