The Bhironda panchayat on Monday issued a stop-work notice to a plastic manufacturing unit at Redighat in Sattari taluka to stop production and to submit appropriate documents within four days.
A special panchayat meeting was convened to discuss the issues pertaining to complaints and pollution at the plastic manufacturing unit.
The panchayat claimed that the manufacture of plastic at the plant was illegal and had been causing pollution to the environment in and around the unit.
A video clip of the pollution had gone viral on social media some days ago, prompting the panchayat to take action in the matter.
At the meeting, it was decided to issue a stop-work notice. Accordingly on Monday, the panchayat issued the notice to the unit owner.
