The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lashed out at the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), a day after the ally decided to support BBSM on the Medium of Instruction (MoI) issue and said the party needed to decide whether they were for or against the regional language as they had supported grants to English medium schools during the Congress regime.
Speaking to media persons, BJP president Vinay Tendulkar said MGP needed to take a decision as to whose side they were on. He pointed to how MGP including its president Deepak Dhavalikar supported Congress in 2011 for their decision to issue grants to 135 English medium schools.
“Yesterday (Sunday), at the BBSM meet, MGP said they were supportive of their demands. This is a joke. Back in 2011 when Congress was in power, under Digambar Kamat they had supported them in giving grants to 135 English primary schools. Had they not given them support, Congress as a government would not be in power. How is it they are supporting BBSM now when they had supported Congress then?” he said.
The Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) had on Sunday organised a meet in Ponda that was attended by Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party’s (MGP) Lavoo Mamledar and Deepak Dhavalikar.
Mamledar while speaking at the BBSM meeting had said, "We need local languages to preserve the culture. One who learns in mother tongue can excel well in his/her career. I support this movement and I am of the opinion that the government should roll back its decision of granting aid to English primary school.”
