IPB gives thumbs up to tourism; clears
3 eco-tourism projects, 7 five-star hotels
The Investment Promotion Board, in its twelfth board meeting, gave a huge boost to the tourism sector by clearing 3 eco-tourism projects and 7 five-star category hotels.
Speaking after the board meeting, chief minister, Laxmikant Parsekar, said, “We have cleared 16 projects overall today. 3 are eco-tourism projects, 7 are five-star hotels, 3 are pharmaceutical projects, 1 is an institution and 2 are manufacturing projects”
The most prominent project to get IPB’s approval was Movaj Enterprises’s project to build a ‘Mini India Park’ at Quelossim, Mormugao. This project was deferred by the IPB earlier. Parsekar said, “It’s a five-star hotel project. The promoter has a lot of land, around 9 lakh square meters. Of that, 35,000 square metres are shown as settlement land as per the regional plan 2021. We have given him approval only for that.”
Movaj Enterprises’s project will create 800 jobs and bring in Rs 625 crores of investment. Another prominent five-star project, which got IPB’s approval was Saint Micheal Estates’s hospitality project in Cavelossim, Salcete, which will create 550 jobs and bring Rs 226 crore of investment.
In the five-star category, Adwalpalkar Constructions and Resorts’s serviced apartment resort project at Bambolim was another key proposal to get IPB’s nod. This project too was deferred by IPB earlier. Actually, the project required changing of zoning from S2 to C2.
Ashton Godinho, chief executive officer (CEO), IPB said, “We did not allow them to change the zoning from S2 to C2. As a result, the promoters have changed the proposal, which fits S2 zoning”
Parsekar sounded upbeat that Goans are investing in the state. Talking about one of these projects, he said, “One person from Betalbatim by name of Antao is an electronic engineer and has worked in Silicon Valley in the US for nine years. He is coming back to develop the property of his ancestors”
This was in reference to M/S Roy Antao, which got the IPB’s approval to set up a boutique eco resort & spa at Betalbatim in Salcete. Apart from this, the other two eco-tourism projects to get IPB’s approvals were Wagheri Eco Farm’s project at Dongurli-Thane and Laxmi Jardin’s project at Salvador-do-Mundo village.
Another important project to get IPB’s approval was Sea Scan Marine Services’s skill development training centre at Nagoa Village in Verna, which was also earlier deferred by the board. The property includes a small portion, which as per regional plan 2021 is under ‘no development zone’.
Godinho said, “A small part of land at the bottom, which is flat area is being given to promoters for the purpose of this institution. We are not giving them the slope to develop”
