3 eco-tourism among 16 get IPB approvals

The Investment Promotion Board, in its twelfth board meeting, gave a huge boost to the tourism sector by clearing three eco-tourism projects and seven five-star category hotels.

Speaking after the board meeting, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said, “We have cleared 16 projects overall today (Monday). Three are eco-tourism projects, seven five-star hotels, three pharmaceutical projects, one an institution and two manufacturing projects.”

The most prominent project to get IPB’s approval was Movaj Enterprises’ project to build a ‘Mini India Park’ at Quelossim, Mormugao. This project was deferred by the IPB earlier.

Meanwhile, the Board has approved a proposal for small hotels and resorts which will allow less than the mandatory 8-metre access road as is currently mandated.

The proposal which was put before the Board now mandates that a hotel or resort of up to 20 rooms and 1,000 m2 built up area can be granted permission with an access road of a minimum of five metres, that of 40 rooms and up to 2,000 m2 of built up area requires a minimum six metre access road while that of more than 40 rooms will require the existing mandatory 8 meter access road.

The decision, taken on Monday also mandates that the “roads shall leave the widening area as prescribed in the Regional Plan/ODP but not less than 8 metres.”
