The Ponda Municipal Council has decided to take help of an NGO to tackle the stray cattle menace by availing the scheme of the Department of Animal Husbandry.
The meeting chaired by PMC Chairperson Dr Radhika Nayak discussed on several issues pertaining to the city. Chief Officer Navnath Naik and councilors were present for the meeting.
It may be recalled that in order to get rid of stray cattle menace, PMC had decided to construct a cattle pound and had submitted a file to the municipal administration.
PMC was supposed to construct cattle pound shed either in Bondbhag area or at Kerye-Khandepar. It had planned to construct two sheds in Kerye-Khandepar, one for cattle pound and another for other use.
Minister for Art and Culture Govind Gawade in a meeting with government officials at Ponda had asked the local bodies to take measures to tackle the stray cattle menace. Since then, PMC has taken the issue seriously.
After discussing the issue at the meeting, PMC decided to accept the request of an NGO, which is willing to lift the stray cattle and take care.
Navnath Naik told The Goan that council has decided to entrust the task to the NGO. "We will avail the scheme of Animal Husbandry and we will work with the NGO," Naik said. According to Naik, this NGO has got cattle pounds in Ponda taluka and there will be no problem to take care of the cattle. "We have not discussed any terms and condition with the NGO," he added.
PMC has decided to pay daily wages of Rs 500 to Market Solid Waste (MSW) workers as per order of the government. Presently, they are paid Rs 320 as daily wages. About 120 workers will benefit with PMC's decision.
