MARGAO
The Aquem ring road between the Power House Junction and the Margao fire station is finally dotted with street light poles, the first time since the road was thrown up for users years ago.
The road users, however, has posed a pertinent question to the authorities “ why are the street lights not switched on till date when the Goa State infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) has completed the work of illumination on the stretch.
They have further questioned whether the ring road stretch is not illuminated since the powers that be are all waiting for the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to inaugurate the beautified ring road and the illumination.
In fact, road users as well as Margao Municipal officials wonder why are the street lights not switched on till date when the lamps are in place, awaiting illumination.
The question assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the fact that the Margao Municipality has got the ring road closed between dusk to dawn and is facing issues to enforce the road closure for want of illumination.
Inquiries by The Goan has revealed that the GSIDC has completed the work of Illumination along the Aquem ring road stretch, besides beautification at an estimated cost of Rs 3.5 crore.
In fact, a GSIDC official said the street lights can be put to illuminate the ring road without any further delay since work on the project already stands complete.
