Road Safety Week gets going in State

Minister for Transport Ramkrishna alias Sudin Dhavlikar inaugurated the 6th State Road Safety Week at Institute Menezes Braganza hall, Panaji, which will be observed by Directorate of Transport from September 19 to 25.
The MLA of Taleigao constituency Jennifer Monserrate, Mayor of the Corporation of the City of Panaji Surendra Furtado, Convener of GOACAN Roland Martins, director for Directorate of Transport, Sunil Masurkar, deputy directors Prakash Azavedo and Gurudas Narvekar were also present.
The theme of the week is: Love Safety, Marry Rules, Divorce Speed.
Dhavalikar said that Motor Vechicle Act is the central act which was amended in 1984 and 1998 and further amending the act this year also is in process. Rules in the Motor Vechicle Act will be amended and strict rules will be included, Dhavlikar said. He further said that Goa is observing road safety week since 2010.
He said further that the government has taken up the four laning of national highways, state highways and major district roads - the work of which will start in the next five years in a big way. He also stated that it is decided by the Union Ministry of Road and Transport to include road safety lessons at Std 8, 9 and 10 syllabus by next academic year. This practice will be implemented in all states of India he remarked.
MLA Jennifer Monserrate, Roland Martins and Mayor Surendra Furtado also spoke on the occasion.
Sandip Dessai assistant director of North enforcement wing welcomed while D'Souza compered the programme. Prakash Azavedo proposed the vote of thanks.
