Several schools in the port town reopened to physical classes for students of Std X and XII on Saturday for the first time during the current academic year.
Students were seen going to schools amid strict safety measures like use of hand sanitisers, physical distancing, face masks and being thermally checked in the school premises.
Schools also appealed to students to strictly follow SOPs to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.
“We have around 150 students in Std X and around 180 students in Std X but we have divided the classes into batches to ensure social distancing and also alternate day class to avoid a crowd in school,” said Pandurang Korgaonkar, principal at Keshav Smruti High School.
“We feel that reopening of school has raised a bar for school teachers as they will have to work hard to complete the syllabus on time, besides attending to more classes due to social distancing norms,” Korgaonkar added.
Another school, Vaddem Nagar English High School was also seen following the SOPs of the government.
“All teachers were happy to see their students back in class after a long time. Some students who don’t have proper internet facilities can come to school, where we can teach and guide them,” said teacher Apolonia Rebello.
“We have followed all protocols. Classes have been sanitised, while parents and students have been explained about the SOPs to be maintained in the school,” Rebello added.
