"The strike notice is rather unfortunate. It is totally illegal. When there are no issues between us and the staff, I don't understand why the strike notice has
been issued," the chairperson said.
He said the misunderstanding of the memorandum issued to the staff was resolved on the same day and the employees had gone back to work after their doubts were cleared.
The chairperson further said he was a little surprised on the charges of harassment mentioned in the strike notice.
"Who was harassed and when? None of our staff ever brought an incident of harassment to my attention or the chief officer," he said.
Stating that the memo/circular issued by the chief officer was of general nature and did not reprimand anyone in particular, Kavlekar said that the demand to withdraw the circular was preposterous.
"It was a general circular with routine instruction to all the staff. No one has been specifically targeted," the chairperson said.
Chief Officer Clen Madeira said that no decision was taken yet on the issue raised by the municipal employees association.
"There is still time. We have not taken any decision on the strike notice," Madeira said.
Meanwhile the uneasy calm among the civic staff was palpable with most preferring to keep a distance from the journalists.
"Nothing has been resolved. We are still upset with the memo and the allegation that we have been leaking information to the media and RTI activists," one of the staffs said.
