A structure which was allegedly violating CRZ norms was razed by authorities at Patnem beach in Canacona on Tuesday.
According to sources, the structure measuring 220 sq. mtrs belonging to one Pravin Ghanshyam Warik was found to be within 200 metres off the coast at Patnem. The GCZMA ordered the demolition of the structure for violation of CRZ norms.
The demolition was carried out with the help of a JCB under the supervision of Canacona Dy Collector Ramesh Gaonkar and in the presence of GCZMA officials.
A police team led by Canacona PI Chandrakant Gawas provided the security during demolition drive.
Pravin Warik, however, alleged he had been targeted and made a scapegoat by authorities due to political differences. He claimed that several illegal structures which were also violating CRZ norms were allowed at Patnem beach.
