After its operation at Pernem, officials descended on Betalbatim village on Tuesday with a heavy earth-moving machinery accompanied by a demolition squad and a Colva police team led by PSI Tulsidas Naik to raze down as many as nine huts and a shack located in a private property.
The officials pointed out that GCZMA had in May issued notices to all shack operators in private properties along the coastal belt to clear their structures, including huts, within 15 days, but in vain. An official pointed out that the demolition operation is being carried out as per directions of the National Green Tribunal.
There was no untoward incident when the squad deputed by the demolition squad chairman Ajit Panchwadkar went about its work of razing down the structures. “In Betalbatim, there are three places where the demolitions will caried out to remove the structures, which remain despite the end of tourism season,” an official added.
“We visited Cavelossim-Mobor belt and have now come to Betlabatim to raze down the illegal structures,” he said.
