Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar on Sunday expessed confidence that the scheduled tribe communities in Goa will get political reservations in the 2027 Assembly election.

Fielding questions on the fate of the political reservations for the ST communities, Tawadkar said it is his duty as a Minister for Tribal Welfare to pursue and continuously do the follow up with the state and central government.

“I have been closely monitoring the efforts  made by the government to get the political reservations for the ST communities in Goa.  We have submitted to the concerned authorities and departments, including the Law ministry. We have even led a delegation to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to issue the notification for the implementation of the law on political reservations for the ST communities”, he said.

Tawadkar said he has never abdicated his responsibility as the Minister for Tribal Welfare to pursue the matter with the state government as well as with the centre.

To a question whether the political reservations for the STs will be implemented in the 2027 Assembly election, Tawadkar shot back “I am confident that the STs will get political reservations in Goa in 2027. We are all making 100 per cent efforts to get the law on reservations implemented”.

To another question, the Tribal Welfare Minister the four seats for the ST community will be decided by the Election Commission of India based on the population census. “We have no role to play to decide on how many seats will be reserved and the names of the seats. This purely falls in the domain of the authorities”, he said.
