Some of the Goan students along with other Indians are taking shelter in bunkers for their safety in war-torn Ukraine even as the government authorities have stepped up the evacuation of the Indian nationals.
A young student from Benaulim Jade Pereira, who is studying Medicine at the National Agrarian University, Ukraine, has been in touch with his parents back home, via the internet.
His parents said that Jade along with others has been taking shelter in bunkers under the hostel premises.
“There are around 500 Indian nationals who are also taking shelter in the bunkers to avoid being caught in the crossfire”, the parents informed.
Their evacuation has been a problem as they are staying in the east of Ukraine, where bombing and firing is the order of the day. They are awaiting evacuation since they are located in the eastern part of Ukraine, and are to be moved towards the west to cross the borders and take the connecting flight to India.
His parents informed that NRI Director, Anthony D’Souza has been in touch with Jaden and other Goan students over the last two days.
