A young student from Davorlim, Rachel Gomes, who was studying medicine in Ukraine, has reached home on Tuesday evening.
She was part of a group of students, who were fortunate enough to leave the country along with her colleagues on February 16 just days before the Russian forces invaded Ukraine.
Salcete Joint Mamlatdar Dhiren Banaulikar paid a courtesy visit to the home of the Gomes family at Davorlim on Tuesday evening.
Rachel told The Goan that she and her group of friends had left Ukraine around February 16 when Russia was beating the war drums around that time.
“I along with some of my colleagues decided to leave Ukraine as there were reports of an imminent Russian attack on the country. We had to travel in the country before taking a flight to Sharjah”, she said.
She added: “When we were in Ukraine, nothing much had happened that time, but reports were all doing the rounds that an attack from Russia on the country was imminent. We were all nervous after hearing the news before we decided to leave the country”
Pursuing studies in medicine for over a year now, Rachel said some of her colleagues are also moving out of the war-torn country.
